Heidi Hausermann awarded a 2015-2016 Fulbright Scholar Grant

Mar 22, 2015

Professor Heidi Hausermann awarded a 2015-2016 Fulbright Scholar Grant for research in Ghana. The proposed research builds from previous work and examines the rural treatment regimes and networks that emerge for Buruli ulcer, a necrotizing skin infection. The terms of her Fulbright allow for short bursts of fieldwork over 2-3 years (compared to the traditional 9-12 month Fulbright stint abroad). She'll conduct the first round of fieldwork for this project in August 2015. On a related note, Heidi also received support from GAIA for a project tilted "Producing disease in commodity landscapes: a pilot study from Ghana's alluvial gold mining belt." This project will query the health implications of landscape change from mining, and look to identify comparative sites in other areas recently transformed by rice and hydropower production.
